Advice & Guidance is freely available for anyone who is uncertain what path to follow. Start date, end date, qualification and cost will be discussed. An appointment can be made to discuss your further needs.
What is Induction?
The Induction process is carried out by your course or programme tutor, and is very important because it informs students of the resources, facilities and procedures that operate in the College.
Listed below are some of the main issues that you should be provided with assistance or information on during your Induction:
Completing your enrolment form.
Obtaining an identity card and car park pass.
You should have been shown the Toilets, Library, Study Rooms, Admissions Office and Student Services etc.
You should receive a copy of the Student Handbook/Diary and be made aware of its contents including the Academic calendar.
You should receive a copy of the Course Handbook.
You should know the Fire regulations and the Evacuation procedure.
You should receive Health and Safety information if you will be working in a specialist area.
You should know the procedure for notifying your absence from College.
You should have read and understood the Appeals and Disciplinary procedures listed in the Student Handbook/Diary.
You should have received a Summary of the full Syllabus for the programme of study you are undertaking.
For most study programmes you should have had an Initial Assessment.
Accommodation
Home Stay family arrangements are also available for students wishing to be immersed into British culture. Breakfast and evening meals are provided. All our home stay families are visited regularly by the Accommodation Officer to ensure that they have safe, warm and comfortable homes and offer a friendly welcome - costs are between £60 and £95 per week. A £20 per week retainer should be allocated when students are away during college’s holidays.
Each year there maybe a small increase in the cost of accommodation
I.D Cards
When you join WSAT you will be issued with an I.D card which incorporates your photograph. Your ID card is important. You need to carry it at all times when on WSAT Campus.
It helps the security staff to maintain a safe and secure environment for your benefit.
You need it to get books from the Library.
You need it to use the WSAT Learning Centre.
You will need it to identify yourself when sitting examinations.
If you lose your I.D card contact the Admissions Office.
A member of staff may ask you to show your I.D card for a number of reasons. Failure to show your card is considered to be a disciplinary offence.

You can discuss flexible options in paying your course fee.
Library
Everyone is encouraged to use the available resources to support their learning ensuring they receive the most current materials, whilst also developing wider skills. WSAT assists in assessing students’ needs and may be able to offer support measures to minimise any barriers to learning. On- course guidance can allow you to review your progress and/or choices and discuss your future plans.
Books and stationery
WSAT will assist students in acquiring recommended textbooks and relevant materials at reasonable cost. Students must arrange to acquire and read the required textbooks and course study materials prior to the relevant class. Students should also arrange to purchase such stationary as may be needed for their studies.
Parking
The students’ car park is located at the back of the building premises. Please note that a one-way system operates on the campus. Students are asked not to park in high road and to drive with special care and consideration for pedestrians, and for the residents.
Travel
Travel information on student travel arrangements including bus passes, rail passes.WSAT can help you with any other travel plans aswell. For public transport purposes London is divided into a series of zones and the further away from the centre, zone one, you travel the greater the cost. Students are entitled to a reduction of one third of the normal cost of a Travelcard, which allows travel on underground and over ground trains, buses, and the Docklands Light Railway.
Academic & Learning
An extensive academic and learning support is provided for students at WSAT. Students are assigned with an academic support tutor, who is available for advice and consultation. Regular review and guidance meetings are held, giving you the opportunity to discuss progress. You will be given continuous feedback on your academic progress and, in the event of difficulties, advised on solutions.
Career
On- course guidance is available for you to review your progress and/or choices and discuss your future plans.
Counselling
Counselling forms part of the WSAT’s support service for students. It is a CONFIDENTIAL and caring service, providing you with an opportunity to talk to someone, about anything you feel the need to

see your situation more clearly
understand your conflicts
discover and develop your own resources, or course of action
arrive at the best decision for you
Counselling is one-to-one usually; ie one client to one counsellor, who work together.It may consist of one, two or several sessions and additional sessions will be offered if this is appropriate.
